UPDATE Ecuador: 2023-01-28 Hike to Yasanga Ridge, Vilcabamba, Ecuador – We look at this ridge each day from our dining room window, so of course we had to go. We enjoyed views of Vilcabamba to the north and views to the south and the Pan-American highway leading all the way to Peru.
One of our YES friends from Canada, Brian and Beth, retired from everyday work in 2020 in the middle of the Covid pandemic and they began their “working retirement” in France and Portugal. Brian is used to physical labour, and they have found a great way to stay in various places for minimal cost (sometimes free) if they simply do some physical maintenance / upkeep work during their month or two at a given property. It could be taking care of the animals on a small farm, or picking up nuts, or painting some fences. Over the past year, they have continued their nomad lifestyle at home stays in Panama and Costa Rica (Central America). They are both avid hikers and mountain climbers, so its been fun to follow their fun journey. They return to Canada to visit with family in western Canada.
Brian has a personal blog he shares with friends entitled “How to Move Your Wife to Mexico” a true story of adventure that hasn’t happened yet!
