Sailing: 12′ O’Day Widgeon

I enjoyed learning to sail in this 12′ O’Day Widgeon fibreglass dingy in the Bay of Fundy / Cobequid Bay area of Nova Scotia, Canada. Its dagger board keel is perfect for the worlds highest tides (15 Meters – 50′) that we have at our cottage. I moored it in the sandy mud area nearby, which also has scattered rocks. My sailing stays in the Noel Bay area, because of the small size of the dingy. The boat is approximately 1975 vintage, which I acquired after 2010. The rudder was a DIY version, and I installed wooden covers for the dash board area, and named it “vanGO”. A few extra photos of other peoples boats, since its hard to take a photo with full sail while sailing.

I did have to call the coast guard on one occasion when the keel would not drop, because it was full of sand! As I drifted out of the bay, the waves were getting up well over 1 meter and it is about 8 km across the Cobequid bay.
